How To Clean Plantation Shutters
If you’re cleaning your whole house or just tidying up before a party, cleaning your Baltimore shutters is a job that needs to be done, and done the right way. But if it’s not, you could risk permanent stains, faded colors, or damage to the material.
What’s the best way to clean shutters? That depends on the type of shutters you have in your Baltimore home.
How To Clean Faux Wood Shutters
Here’s what you’ll need to get started:
-
A microfiber dusting cloth
-
A slightly damp cloth
Using a microfiber cloth, wipe over each part of your shutters to get rid of any dust or dirt. For larger smudges or messes, wipe them down with a barely damp cloth. Again, stay away from any chemical compounds or any abrasive cleaners.
A damp cloth is fine to use to clean the entire shutter, but it’s usually a good idea to dry the shutter after removing the mess.
When you clean real wood shutters, try to be careful not to do anything overly abrasive that could impact the wood finish or expose the wood to moisture.
You’ll want these supplies to clean your shutters:
-
A microfiber dusting cloth
-
A soft, dry cloth
For ridding your wood shutters of dust, all that’s needed is to give the shutter panels and frame a quick wipe-down with a dusting cloth.
For smudges or spills, try rubbing first with a dry cloth. You normally shouldn’t use a damp cloth unless you have to, and even then, the dryer the cloth, the better. Only do this for the affected area – don’t scrub the entire shutter with a damp cloth. If you use a damp cloth, always follow up with a dry cloth. Also, don’t ever use a caustic chemical cleaner, or else you may damage the finish of the wood.
